Computer Programming

The programming curriculum at Wissahickon High School consists of 4 levels:

Intro to programming

This course teaches the beginnings of programming. The basic concept of the algorithm is explained in this course, as well as seven contol structures. Initial Searching and Sorting are also examined in this course.

Computer Programming ( C++ )

In Computer Programming, the algorithms and control structures are taken to the next level. Focus is on algorithm development, and accessing data by reference instead of value. Further exploration into searching and sorting.

Advanced Programming ( Java )

Advanced Programming introduces the students to the Object Oriented programming language, Java. Objects are expained and examined. This is different from the procedural programming that the students have been doing up to this point. This class uses Eclipse as our programming environment (IDE), which is open-source and platform independant. Projects in this class will get students familiar with Java and Object-Oriented programming, preparing them for the Advanced Placement Computer Programming class.

Advanced Placement Computer Programming ( Java )

This course has been approved by the College Board as an Official AP course. This course covers all materials necessary for the Advanced Placement Exam. Topics in Computer Science such as Inheritance, Polymorphism, Recursion, and syntax and semantics will be covered.
