SunsetI was pretty surprised when they asked me to submit this to the art show. After all, compared to the amazing work submitted by artistic students each year, my little printed skyline pales in comparison. But what the technology teachers found so exciting about this was the fact that underneath the picture you see here is hard Java code. Each object (buildings, windows, borders) requires moderately complex code to create: sizes, locations, colors, and all other things must be considered and given attention. Everyone in the class (all three of us) had to make a skyline with random buildings and windows, but what makes me so proud of my own submission is the sunset in the background. It’s ingenious, really; it’s actually a series of 200 horizontal lines which span the width of the image. Each line varies slightly in color as it is placed on the page, creating a gradient effect so smooth you never would have guessed the method I used to create it. Chances are if you’ve bothered reading this far you’re one of the few able to appreciate the work that went into this project, and for that I thank you.
Kind regards, Alex Lopez |
